1. Make your bible study times deliberate and consistent.  It starts with discipline which turns to desire and then dedication.

2. Quality is key.  There is no point spending 3 hours reading the bible in a zombie-like state.  It is better to read your bible for 15 minutes through the eyes of revelation that leads to increase in knowledge and understanding; rather than putting quantity of time spent before quality of time spent feeding from the word.

3.How you start is not how you finish.  Though you may start spending short periods of quality time reading your bible, this will change as your dedicated bible study times are kept consistently over time.  It will surprise you how quickly discipline morphs into desire and then dedication!

4. Pray before Commencing.  Ask God to open up your eyes of revelation and to guide you to scriptures that are in season.  Remember the bible is one of the main ways God communicates with us; through His word.

5. Practise orderly bible study.  Let your study time be orderly. Don't just hop from one book to the next randomly.  Make your study time meaningful and productive.  Always read your bible with a pen and paper near by wherever possible because God desires to and will speak to you through His word and you ought to be ready to make a note of the revelations you receive through His word.  The revelation may be for an appointed time in the future.

6.Organise your day in such a way that you set aside quality time for reading/studying your bible.  I have found that early in the morning is particularly good. It will surprise you how alive and receptive your brain and heart are first thing in the morning!

7.Be Consistent and dedicated to keep your bible study time even when you are away from home or on holiday.  Often times when I go on holiday or I am away from home,  I find it challenging to continue my routine, however I began to appreciate the benefits of consistently keeping my bible study appointments with God and recognised the draw backs when there was a break in communication.  Such breaks sometimes act like a circuit breaker hindering the whole routine.  Getting back into the swing of it thereafter often times proves difficult.
